The Flooring Technology Centre, UK
Situated in the heart of South Cheshire, the newly opened Flowcrete Flooring Technology Centre, which acts as the global headquarters for our company’s group-wide operations, represents one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings within the region...
Designed by architects, Hulme Upright and built by local construction firm, Manchester & Cheshire Construction, the state-of-the art office complex involved the use of two unoccupied structures, at the company’s site in Sandbach, as the foundations for this modern and sustainable refurbishment project.
Boasting a number of enhanced features, our new base marries a wide-range of eco-friendly construction products to deliver an inspirational building that serves not only as a showroom for Flowcrete’s sustainable flooring materials but the ideals of ‘Green’ construction as a whole.
The design incorporates the principles of Feng Shui to harmonise the building and all of its occupants from within.
- All internal lighting is set to react to natural daylight levels in order to minimise energy use
- The thermally efficient glazed wall is framed with sustainable oak to provide a warm contrast to the contemporary glazing
- A green roof attenuates rainwater run off, assists with thermal and acoustic insulation, provides CO2 absorption and adds to bio diversity
- Heating is provided by an underfloor heating system supplied with hot water from an air source heat pump eliminating the need for boilers and reducing energy use
- In warm weather, the underfloor heating system can be reversed to absorb heat from the building and provide cooling underfoot
- There is no air conditioning within the building; instead it is ventilated naturally by Monodraught Windcatchers and opening window lights
