This includes adding the Isowarm underfloor heating system and Isocrete Acoustic K foam – two flooring elements that can provide large-scale new build and refurbishment projects with a long list of sustainable and practical benefits.
Isowarm is an energy efficient heating system that heats a room from below by circulating warm water through concealed pipework. This heating method has proven popular with many residential, healthcare, education and leisure environments thanks to its controllable, easy to apply nature. Thin sections can even be installed in areas where floor to ceiling height is an issue.
The even and uniform manner in which heat is released delivers efficiency savings of up to 30% compared to conventional heating methods, which are much more likely to lose energy by dissipating heat from a fixed point, rather than across the entire floor area at once as Isowarm does.
Many healthcare facilities have found Isowarm to be highly beneficial, as radiators can be a safety risk and they also take up valuable floor space that can be used for medical equipment. Recently Ryhope General Hospital in Sunderland installed Isowarm, topped with Isocrete K-Screed, in multiple wards. Flowcrete UK worked closely with Westerhailes Healthy Living Centre to ensure that underfloor heating could be installed underneath a range of finishes in different rooms.
By including a layer of Isocrete Acoustic K foam within the floor, it is possible to reduce the passage of airborne sound. Many high-rise residential developments have found this to be an effective way to create a quiet ambiance within multi-occupancy buildings.
This system exceeds the requirements of Approved Document E of the Building Regulation 2003, which requires airborne sound performance (min 45Db) and impact sound performance (max 62Db).
Both of these systems can be used together with other Flowcrete systems - in particular Isocrete floor screeds – and architects can make use of the Isocrete Project Management service to streamline the specification, application and maintenance processes.
If you’d like to find out more, head to stand N6020 at Ecobuild 2015 (you can’t miss it. It’s bright green!), where Flowcrete UK’s team will be on hand to talk about its innovative flooring solutions.
You’ll also be able to see a life-size, cut-through model of the Green Floorzone at our stand and even sign up for a RIBA accredited CPD seminar on underfloor heating.
