The significant investment into the UK's underground rail network and transport infrastructure requires building materials tailored to the unique demands of the sector. Flowcrete UK has developed a variety of acrylic resin based flooring solutions designed to provide a vibrant, non-slip and tactile route from the turnstile right through to the platform edge.

The Flowfast Rapid Transit systems include Flowfast Rapid Transit SR and Flowfast Rapid Transit Tactiles. These systems not only help improve the aesthetics of rail environments, but they provide safe, anti-slip and easily cleaned floors that won’t fail under heavy footfall.

Flowfast Rapid Transit SR uses quartz aggregates to achieve a joint-free and positively textured finish, and is available in a creative range of 10 eye-catching colours to brighten up underground rail platforms and stairways.

Flowfast Rapid Transit Tactiles work alongside the Rapid Transit SR system, as they are laid in a strip along the platform edge to alert visually impaired customers to any fall or hazard risks. The 400 x 400mm tiles have raised blister studs or corduroy strips that are filled with a high performance aggregate to ensure a skid and slip-resistant finish. The tiles are sufficiently flexible to incorporate small differences in the level of the substrate and have been designed so that they cannot be installed the wrong way round or pose any trip-hazard.

Flowcrete's platform flooring solutions meet all of the rigorous safety recommendations regarding the use of fire-proof floor covering systems in underground rail environments as detailed in the London Underground Limited Engineering Standards and Building Regulations (BS 476 parts 6 and 7) in compliance with Section 12 of the Fire Precautions Act, 1971.

The Flowfast Rapid Transit range contains a powerful MMA catalyst which speeds up the flooring material’s rate of cure - allowing the surface to be fully serviceable in just two hours. Drastically cutting down on the flooring installation timescale can help to get stations up and running faster than expected!
